I guess most Atari games probably rely on the gamer having fairly well tuned twitch reflexes. Missile Command certainly does. It is a neat little game that requires the gamer to actively manage several variables in order to maximize their “life” in the game and their score. Predicting the intercept point of you anti-missile missiles, managing resources (that is, limited number of anti-missile missiles) and prioritizing targets in a very short space of time requires quick thinking and reflexes.
That said, it is a relatively simple game, and there aren’t any significant game design tips to come out of playing it (noting that I haven’t tried all combinations and permutations of available game modes). For a beginner game developer like myself, it probably would be an excellent project to try and clone Missile Command.
